Apples are by far one of our favorite fruits to juice since they can turn even the most bitter-tasting drink into a sweet and delicious juice

Many overlook the juicing power of apples due to not usually being promoted as a superfood like wheatgrass, but for every large apple juiced you get over 11% vitamin C, a healthy helping of potassium and magnesium, and enough energy to keep you going on your morning commute to work.

The biggest issue is that not all juicers are built equally, and not every juicer is equipped to deal with the variance of texture, toughness, and weight found with apples to allow for efficient juicing.

Some juicers may not have enough power to break down a firm apple effectively, whereas others may attempt to break down the apple with too much speed, resulting in a lot of mess and wasted produce during the juicing process.

REVIEW SCORE:
96/100

The Omega vsj843 takes the top spot on our list for a juicer that can consistently make exceptional apple juice mixed with spinach or kale.

The quiet 150w motor rotates at a slow pace of 43rpm ( revolutions per minute), exerting enough power to squeeze out a huge amount of nutrients from apples of all textures.

The slow rotation of the vertical auger gives the Omega-vsj843 enough time to squeeze out as many nutrients as possible. The speed is also a critical feature when it comes to maximizing juice extraction from greens. The downside to the high yield is the longer juicing times, which requires a bit of patience. The upside to slow mastication is constant low-temperature extraction in a high-pressure screen, resulting in a nutritious juice with minimal oxidation

Two key features that work exceptionally well on the vsj843 are the self-feeding option and the reverse function. The self-feeding options allow you to create apple juices with minimal effort while the reverse function automatically, and the reverse function is excellent for preventing clogging.

Cleaning is one of the most grueling tasks of any juicing process. Thankfully the Omega is easy to clean due to its small list of parts that are easy to assemble and take apart. Plus, the handy automatic pulp ejection feature pushes out the excess pulp while you are juicing saving time on the final cleanup.

Overall the Omega-vsj843 represents one of the best vertical masticating apple juicers around due to its ability to apply a significant amount of pressure while juicing to extract high yields from firm apples and leafy vegetables. Couple this with a 15-year warranty, and the Omega-vsj843 comfortably takes our top spot for the best juicer for apples.

REVIEW SCORE:

Apples are one of the toughest fruits to accurately juice consistently due to their firm yet varied inner textures. Some can be incredibly soft, while others can be especially tough with skin that can cause clogs in the wrong juicer.

The Tribest slowstar juicer, however, is perfectly set up to deal with the wide variations that apples can bring to the table. With its 200-watt motor and duo blade auger, it rotates slow enough at a speed of 47 rpm to allow for enough juice extraction yet also provides enough torque to extract juice from even the toughest apples.

Apple pulp can be quite thick and a struggle for some juicers to be able to filter properly. Fortunately, the Tribest slowstar comes with an extremely durable auger and strainer made of ultem plastic, which is strong enough to filter even the thickest apple pulp effectively.

If space is a limiting factor in your kitchen, then the Tribest is an excellent option since its the smallest juicer on our list with a large amount of power. The small size and limited parts also mean its easy to clean since there are fewer things that can get messy. Although parts are minimal, the Tribest comes with a brilliant extra mincing attachment that allows you to not only juice apples without froth but gives you the ability to get creative with frozen apple sorbets or apple and pear jams.

The Tribest is a high performance juicer with a solid mix of stainless steel and high-grade BPA free plastic, which represents great value for money and ensures the juicer can withstand a lot of use. What is also notable is the pretty lengthy 10-year warranty that gives you the ability to juice with confidence without worry about it breaking down midway.

Due to its lengthy warranty, high torque, low noise, and compact size, the Tribest is our best cold press machine for making apple juice in small kitchen spaces.

REVIEW SCORE:
93/100

The Breville Juice fountain Cold XL is by far the most powerful juicer out of our top picks with a 1200w motor powering a titanium blade capable of 13000rpm (revolutions per minute) making juicing apples a super quick and easy task.

The high power is great for those wanting a quick energy boost in the mornings without having to wait through longer juicing times that typically come with masticating juicers. The Cold spin technology is excellent for retaining low temperatures, which is typically a struggle for fast centrifugal juicers.

The Breville comes with two speed options that allow you to go from juice at slower speeds with softer ingredients and a fast option for tougher foods. To ensure all ingredients are juiced efficiently, the Breville also has a boost function, which helps to produce a smooth juicing result. These different speed choices will enable you to adjust for softer or harder fruits and vegetables, giving you the ability to be more versatile with your apple juice recipes.

The main foods that the Breville struggles with are leafy greens, so if you plan to juice apples with kale or spinach, then the Tribest GSE5050 or Omega-vsj843 will be better juicers for the job.

The Breville juice fountain is excellent value for money, especially with its cold spin technology that keeps temperatures low to prevent nutrient degradation. The downside is the short warranty, so consider this before choosing an apple juicer for your needs. If a lengthy warranty is at the top of your juicer priorities than the Omega VSJ843 is a brilliant option with a 15-year warranty to cover your purchase.

Overall if speed and efficiency are your core focus when juicing apples and you love to juice the harder vegetables like carrots alongside your apple juice than the Breville is a brilliant choice for your needs.

4. Tribest GSE 5050- Best for apples and greens

FEATURES:

Juicer Type: Horizontal Masticating Juicer

Power: 200w

Speed: 110rpm

Warranty:12 years

Dimensions: 18.6 x 6.8 x 12.4 inches

REVIEW SCORE:
92/100

The Tribest GSE is the fastest masticating juicer out of our leading picks for apples meaning you’ll be able to get all the primary benefits you tend to get from cold press masticating juicers but at a faster pace.

The Tribest can keep oxidation levels low while maintaining a high level of nutrient extraction due to its 200w motor and stainless steel twin gears, which they say were specifically designed for harder food sources such as apples and carrots. The results of the twin-gear juicer on apples were pleasantly positive, with a resulting high yield with minimal froth.

Tribest also claims that their bioceramic and magnetic technology inside the juicer allow for a higher level of minerals and vitamins to be extracted. Although it was hard to tell whether the “bioceramic technology” actually made a difference, we can safely say the extracted juice quality was impressive, with a high juice yield and dry apple pulp.

One significant feature that makes the Tribest stand out above all the other juicers on our list is the pressure adjustment mechanism attached to the end. Higher levels of pressure are required for more dense foods. The adjustable pressure feature allows for more comprehensive control over pulp ejection and juicing capability. This ability gives the Tribest the ability to juice the widest range of foods to a high standard with minimal limitations.

Although the Tribest is reasonably easy to assemble, it ends up being harder to clean than the other juicing options due to having so many parts. If long cleaning times are a significant setback, then the Omega-nc900 with its single auger and a smaller list of components is a brilliant alternative that juices apple’s just as well as the Tribest.

The GSE-5050 comes with a boatload of extras that allow you to do much more than make apple juice. The various accessories enable you to make nut milk, nut butter, pasta plus grind flour, and coffee beans, which is perfect for those who like to get creative in the kitchen.

The Tribest GSE-5050 takes our number 1 spot for best premium cold press juicer for making apple juice due to its spectacular ability to extract a high yield from even the firmest apples. Couple that with its lengthy 12 year warranty that keeps your purchase protected for years to come, its hard to go wrong with the GSE-5050.

5. Hamilton Beach Pro Juicer – Best Budget Centrifugal juicer

Power: 800w

Speed: 12500rpm

Warranty:3 year limited warranty

Dimensions: 11.5 x 7.8 x 14.4 inches

REVIEW SCORE:
88/100

The Hamilton Beach includes an 800w electric motor, around 400 watts lower than the Breville Juice Fountain Cold Xl, but for apples juicing still performs relatively very well considering the lower cost.

Although the Hamilton Beach has a limited number of extra technical features, the simplicity and ease of use for juicing apples make it a brilliant option for beginners.

A wonderful benefit of the Hamilton Beach juicer is its ease of use and simple assembly. There also aren’t that many parts, meaning cleanup after an extensive apple juice session is relatively quick. The plastic parts are BPA free and dishwasher safe, which makes the stressful cleanup an easy task, especially with the apple skin that can get stuck in corners of the jug.

The Hamilton is pretty compact for a centrifugal juicer, which is a brilliant benefit for those trying to make the most of a small kitchen area. It also includes two safety clamps that stop juicing from happening until it’s secured firmly on your countertop. This is a vital basic feature for safe juicing and to avoid making a mess once juicing begins.

Hamilton has a reasonably large feed chute, which in theory, can save on prep time since some foods can be thrown in whole. However, we still advise not to throw in a whole apple when making apple juice. Slightly cutting them down may save on overall juicing time since it will avoid the chance of the juicer jamming.

Overall The Hamilton Beach juicer is one of the best cheap yet efficient options for making fresh apple juice, and with a warranty slightly longer than the more powerful Breville, the Hamilton Beach represents great value for money.

Apple Juicer Buyers Guide

So what qualities do we look for in a juicer to make it great for apples?

Juicer Type

There are two juicer types for apple juice that you need to be aware of for the best juicing experience.

Masticating juicer

Masticating juicers tend to cause a bit of confusion between buyers since there are so many juicers now branded as “masticating.” Masticating typically means to grind/squeeze/crush.

In the case of juicers, it will generally mean squeezing the apples through an auger, which slowly rotates, gradually crushing the apples into delicious nutrient-rich apple juice.

The slow rotation of the auger in masticating juicers is critical, and this is what’s referred to when you see the term “Slow juicers.”

The speed tends to range from around 45 rpm to around 110 rpm (rotations per minute) which is slow enough for the juicer to apply enough pressure to the apples to extract maximum yield

Another essential aspect generally related to masticating juicers is the temperature. When you see the term cold-pressed, it typically refers to a masticating or slow juicer.

Low temperatures allow the best conditions to retain all the nutrients when juicing your apples since and high temperatures typically tend to breakdown nutrients over time.

The biggest downside of masticating juicers is that they are generally more expensive.

Centrifugal juicer

Centrifugal juicers use a blade that spins at very high speeds for juice extraction, usually between 10,000 and 13,000 RPM (revolutions per minute) to break down your chosen fruit or vegetable and the pulp is extracted using “centrifugal force” during rotation

This can be effective to some degree with hard foods such as carrots, beets or apples but for more fragile thinner foods like wheatgrass or cabbage the high speed and sharp blades end up wasting a lot of the produce, so if you plan to make apple juice with a leafy green like kale, a masticating juicer would be a better alternative

The speed, heat, and exposure to air that occur with centrifugal juicers also allow for higher rates of oxidation which can lower overall nutrient quality in your apple juices

The big plus sides to a centrifugal juicer are that they are overall cheaper than a masticating juicer, and you get your apple juice in no time at all.

Motor & Power

Centrifugal juicers have the highest power typically between 800-1000 watts since high power is required to spin the blades at a fast enough pace to extract the juice and separate the pulp from the produce

Masticating juicers, on the other hand, use a low amount of power in comparison to centrifugal juicers in the range of 100-200w

This sounds small compared to the high numbers of a centrifugal juicer, but due to the slow rotational speed and the pressure applied within the screen, 100-200w of power is generally enough to extract a high apple juice yield.

Due to the lower power output, there is also less heat created, which retains nutrient quality in your apples.

One thing to note regarding power is that with a lot of power comes a lot of noise.

If you live in a house/apartment that requires things to be quiet, then a masticating juicer may be a better option.

Yield & Pulp extraction

 Yield

One of the critical things to take note of when determining the quality of a juicer is how much actual juice can yield from a particular fruit or vegetable

In general, masticating/slow juicers will retain the highest yield since the slow cold-pressed process can squeeze out more without wasting produce.

This is the case for things like leafy greens and firm fruit or vegetables like carrots, apples, and ginger.

 Pulp

Another thing to consider is how wet or dry the extracted pulp is after juicing. Dry pulp equals a higher level of extraction, but if the pulp is wet, it may mean the juicer is ill-equipped for that particular fruit or vegetable. Masticating juicers tend to have more ways to adjust for pulp extraction, which can lead to dryer pulp when using the right settings.

Ease of use

Key things to consider

  • How easy is it to put together and take apart?
  • Are there a lot of overall parts, do they seem delicate or durable and do they fit on easily without you having to google precisely how to piece everything together? Simplicity is key in this regard
  • How long does it take to start juicing?

A simple interface with easy to understand buttons is paramount to quick juicing with minimal stress.

Size of the feed chute is another aspect to consider since the bigger the feed chute, the less preparation needs to be done before you can throw in your apples. If the feed chute is small, you will need to chop your apples into smaller pieces. We recommend at least slicing your apples into quarters, which makes the juicer have an easier time juicing the core.

Extra features like adjustable speeds for different food textures, self-feeding options and a reverse function for if the apples get stuck during juicing are important things to look out for when trying to find a juicer that works well for apple juice.

Clean up

How difficult a juicer is to clean can be the make or break attribute that stops you in your track on your juicing journey simple because no one wants to do it.

For this reason, it’s vital to be aware of how long it will take to clean up your chosen juicer before you actually make a purchase.

Main things to consider are

The amount of parts- More parts equals more things to clean. Single auger slow juicers tend to be the easiest to clean since they have minimal parts and minimal places for apple skin to get stuck.

Are they dishwasher safe? Some parts may need a brush to be cleaned (which will usually come with the product) others can be thrown in the dishwasher providing that the parts are dishwasher safe

Size and appearance

How much space does the juicer take up, or what is its counter footprint. Some juicers especially ones with horizontal augers can take up a lot of space so knowing ahead of time where you want your juicer to sit and how much countertop space you actually have for it alongside space for you to chop and prep your produce is important

For those with limited space, a vertical juicer may be the best option since they can fit nicely in most kitchen counter corners without edging over the side

Chute size is another thing to consider before purchasing and what fruits and vegetables you plan on juicing the most.

A larger chute will allow you to place who fruit and veg inside your juicer without precutting whereas a smaller chute will require a precut

In most cases, precutting is recommended even if a chute is large enough since it stops the juicer from having to work too hard

Value

The main things to consider when trying to determine the value of a juicer are price, parts, and warranty.

You may be able to find a cheap juicer that looks like a brilliant deal, but if the warranty is short and doesn’t cover all product parts you may end up spending much more in the long run

Warranties will vary depending on budget

  • the lower range of juicers providing 1-3 years
  • mid-range providing 5-10 years
  • upper ranger providing 10-15 years

The durability of the parts is key in our reviewing process and should be the main factor to think about before you purchase. Questions to ask yourself before purchase:

  • Are the parts made of stainless steel or plastic
  • Is the plastic BPA free
  • Are the parts easy to replace if broken

The more stainless steel parts that make up the product, the more durable and long-lasting the product will be. If the juicer comprises of mainly plastic parts, it will tend to be cheaper but may not hold up as well when juicing for long periods.
